My first love was music. As a young Thundercat growing up in Brooklyn, my mother and I moved around a lot, which provided a variety of experiences for me, but music was the first thing that clicked. As a singer, my love for song evolved into a passion for performance, conveying the emotion behind the music – which led to Acting and Modeling. I decided at age 12 that performance would be my path and I began to pursue formal Acting instruction. I studied Theatrical Acting during college, but when I began to search for work, there were more modeling opportunities than acting gigs available to me. My mother is half Puerto Rican, so I definitely have a love for my Latin heritage; but not to confuse – I am a Black woman through and through and there just weren’t many roles out there for me. I took to Modeling quickly, scoring several editorial publications and fashion showcases. I see Modeling as an extension of Acting, and my work clearly expresses this close relationship.
I’m always performing (ask anyone who knows me…) but the consummate professional I bring to the set is very different from the goofy, theater energy that powers my soul. Okay, maybe not completely different because I can be silly when the cameras are off. But once we start rolling, my mind checks out and I really get into my zone. I’m big on “get in, get the shot, get out.” It’s super important to me to make everybody’s job easier; being prepared and ready to work is the best way to create a highly functional, creative environment. Talent is important, but readiness really is what separates the good and the great. And I want to be great!
